Greetings PASS Members,
We have a message from Cal-PIRG:
CAL-PIRG’S
EVENT ON HEALTHCARE AND HUMAN RIGHTS
Thursday, February 19th 7:00pm - 9:00pm at Student Services Center
Multipurpose Room.
Cal-PIRG has invited PASS members to come and listen to experts discuss
the health care crisis in America - its causes, effects, and possible
solutions and discuss the wider question at the heart of the issue: "Is
health care a human right?" They will be focusing on how not having health
insurance and lack of access to medical care affect people's health, the
problems with current efforts for preventative care, how easily treatable
sickness may become a complicated and costly health problem, and how many
individuals don't have access to health care in such a wealthy nation. If
you have any questions contact Jennifer Hull at jrhull@ucsd.edu.

NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP
Coordinator
Phildrich Teh (pteh@ucsd.edu)
Saturday,
February 7th, 8:00 Am - 3:00 pm
The
Harris Fire Recovery
Center has given PASS a
great opportunity to help those who lost their homes due to the 2007 wildfire
crisis. This project would require PASS members to clear brush around the homes
of those victims that are too old and poor to do the cleanup by themselves.
Most of the fire victims have been waiting for over a year to move in and
perhaps would never do so if no one helps. Furthermore, insurances will
withdraw their homes and the county can issue hefty fines of up to
$3,000. Come out and make a difference! We will meet at Sungod and please
email me if you are interested. Rides will be provided and anyone who
volunteers to drive will be reimbursed. Remember that these people are counting
on you so don’t miss out!
To
join a project you must email the event’s coordinator with a request to be
added to list of attendees, or sign up with the coordinator at a general body
meeting.
If you have them, please don’t
forget to wear your PASS shirt to projects and socials!
All drivers that volunteer to help drive will be
reimbursed.
If you
have any questions, please send an email to pass@ucsd.edu Please do not
send emails to this address
Sincerely,
Ronald Chang
