Here are the upcoming events for The Pre-Medical Association of Students for
Service…
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
2nd General Body Meeting: Wednesday, October 28th,
7:00pm-8:00pm, TBD
"What to know for being a Pre-Med at UCSD" For our second
GBM, We have Jamie Nye from Career Services coming in to talk about the
application process for getting into medical school including how to start
preparing early on.
You can pay dues and Officers will be there to answer any questions. Also, you
will be able to sign up for projects.
Food and Drinks are provided!
PASS wants YOU to submit a design for
our t-shirts. We are accepting submissions for our t-shirt. The only
requirement is that the T-shirt contains the PASS logo. Let
your creativity run wild. Please submit your design (preferably as a
scanned copy of drawing) to pass@ucsd.edu or
bring it to Vice President Christine at the next GBM. The winner
receives a $50 VISA card. Contest closes on November 4th, 2009 .
NEW MEMBERS
To be considered an
active member of PASS, you must pay your annual dues by Wednesday of week 6.
Member dues are $25 and may be paid to our treasurer Phildrich at general body
meetings or online (by clicking on the "pay dues" button on the right
side of www.ucsdpass.org).
Member dues are a necessary part of your membership to cover the cost of the
PASS T-shirt (which all members will receive once the winning design of the
t-shirt design contest is selected), reimbursements to drivers for fuel costs
and parking in getting to projects, and the amount that PASS pays for projects,
socials, the annual end-of-the-year banquet, and other club events. Each
year, PASS has contributed at least $500 to charitable causes working to
further research in medicine or social action.
PASS MENTOR-MENTEE PROGRAM
Our first social of the year will take place at the Haunted Hotel, Friday,
Oct. 30, 7:30-10:00pm. What better way to get to know your new mentors/mentees
than to get scared out of your minds! This will be a great opportunity to
interact with the PASS officers, a.k.a. your mentors, so make sure to come out!
Members who have paid dues before OCTOBER 28TH @MIDNIGHT will get a
PASS exclusive discount rate of $7. This is more than 50% off the original
price! All unpaid members will pay $14.
Please RSVP before Thurs, Oct. 29th so we can get a group
discount rate!

yourself pay using a credit card (a parent perhaps?) then please email
Secretary Jenny to check that dues went under your name and not that of the

PREUSS SCHOOL TUTORING

The Preuss School, located on the University of California San Diego (UCSD)
campus in La Jolla, California, is a charter middle and high school dedicated
to providing a rigorous college prep education for motivated low-income
students who will become the first in their families to graduate from college.
Preuss has classes from 6th grade to 12th grade and the classes meet from 9am
to 4pm M-F and 9-11am on Saturdays. Volunteer tutors usually come in for
an hour and a half, twice a week (Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and
Thursday).
To become a volunteer tutor email Lisa Sugimori at lsugimor@gmail.com for the volunteer
application and she will set up yor orientation. Volunteers need to
provide a proof of TB test result that is no more than 60 days old. If you have
it, bring a copy of the results to the orientation. Alternatively, volunteers
may get their TB screening down with our school nurse for free (call Kris
Richer at 858-658-7422). Additionally, you will need to provide a copy of
a government issued photo identification (driver’s license, passport, military
identification, US or other government identification). (Student identification
cards do no satisfy this requirement.)
LA JOLLA SHORES BEACH CLEANUP

Saturday, November 7th, 10:00am-12:00pm
Come out and help PASS keep La Jolla Shores clean and beautiful! Rides leave
from the Sun God Statue at 10 AM, gloves and trash bags will be provided. If
you have a car and wouldn't mind driving a few members, please let Ali know,
you will be reimbursed for gas! Hope to see you all there!
ROOM VISITS

Dates: Nov. 7th, Nov. 21th
Come spend time with the elderlies at Hyatt Classical Residence in La Jolla!
This project allows you to hang out and talk to elderlies and on this day they
have a special tea social. We are going to help serve tea and biscuits which
allows more personal one on one time. You wouldn't want to miss this enjoyable
event as you can see how your presence can brighten up someone's day!
Meet at Sungod at 1:00p. Let Lillian know if you can drive and how many
you can take! If you would like to drive yourself, gas will be
reimbursed.
To join a project, you must email the event’s coordinator with a request
to be added to the list of attendees, or sign up with the coordinator at a
general body meeting.
If you have them, please don’t forget to wear your PASS
shirts to projects and socials!
