Here are the upcoming events for The Pre-Medical Association of Students for
Service…
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
3rd GENERAL BODY MEETING (NOTE: DATE HAS CHANGED): Thursday, November 12th,
7:00pm-8:00pm, York 2722. NOT
Nov. 18th
“Information on Navy Medicine” with navy doctors. US Navy guest speakers
will explain to us the benefits of letting the government pick up that heavy
debt you will have from medical school. What is it like being a doctor for the
Navy? What is it like to travel around the world as a doctor? What are the
requirements?
You can pay dues and Officers will be there to answer any questions. Also, you
will be able to sign up for projects.
Food and Drinks are provided!
T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST extended until
Nov. 23, 2009, The winner (as selected by the PASS officers) receives a $50
VISA giftcard!
PASS wants YOU to submit a design for our
t-shirts. All members are eligible to submit designs. The only requirement is
that the T-shirt contains the PASS logo. Be creative! Submission may be
sent to pass@ucsd.edu as a sketch of the
design showing front and back of the shirt. Shirts will be available to paid
members during the winter quarter GBMs. Email pass@ucsd.edu
with any questions.
WEEK 6
DEADLINE
To be considered an
active member of PASS, you must pay your annual dues by Wednesday of week 6.
Member dues are $25 and may be paid to our treasurer Phildrich at general body
meetings or online (by clicking on the "pay dues" button on the right
side of www.ucsdpass.org). Member dues are a necessary part of your membership to cover the
cost of the PASS T-shirt (which all members will receive once the winning
design of the t-shirt design contest is selected), reimbursements to drivers
for fuel costs and parking in getting to projects, and the amount that PASS
pays for projects, socials, the annual end-of-the-year banquet, and other
club events. Each year, PASS has contributed at least $500 to charitable causes
working to further research in medicine or social action.
PASS MENTOR-MENTEE PROGRAM
Need help finding the best classes and professors? Which major is best for
your future goals? What about internships and research opportunities? Come
learn from experienced pre-meds and make some new friends! The PASS
Mentor-Mentee program is a fantastic resource for freshmen and upperclassmen
alike!
If you have not signed up for the mentor/mentee program and would like to

with the following info: name, email address, year, and major.

If you used PayPal on our website to pay for dues and had someone other than
yourself pay using a credit card (a parent perhaps?) then please email
Secretary Jenny to check that dues went under your name and not that of the
payee. Email pass@ucsd.edu with your name and the name of the individual who
paid for you.

PREUSS SCHOOL TUTORING

The Preuss School, located on the University of California San Diego (UCSD)
campus in La Jolla, California, is a charter middle and high school dedicated
to providing a rigorous college prep education for motivated low-income
students who will become the first in their families to graduate from college.
Preuss has classes from 6th grade to 12th grade and the classes meet from 9am
to 4pm M-F and 9-11am on Saturdays. Volunteer tutors usually come in for
an hour and a half, twice a week (Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and
Thursday).
To become a volunteer tutor email Lisa Sugimori at lsugimor@gmail.com for the volunteer
application and she will set up yor orientation. Volunteers need to
provide a proof of TB test result that is no more than 60 days old. If you have
it, bring a copy of the results to the orientation. Alternatively, volunteers
may get their TB screening down with our school nurse for free (call Kris
Richer at 858-658-7422). Additionally, you will need to provide a copy of
a government issued photo identification (driver’s license, passport, military
identification, US or other government identification). (Student identification
cards do no satisfy this requirement.)
LIGHT THE NIGHT WALK-THE LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY

Nov. 20th, 4:40pm-8:40pm at Qualcomm Stadium
Each year, in communities all across the United States and Canada, families,
friends, neighbors and teams from local businesses and national companies come
together for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS’s) Light the Night Walk
events to bring help and hope to people battling blood cancers.
PASS will be donating $300 to the cause! Be proactive and come support! Meet
at Sungod statue at 4:40pm, rides will be provided. If you sign up and can’t
go, the cutoff is a week before the event! Please indicate whether if you can
drive or not in the email (gas will be reimbursed!)
ROOM VISITS

Date: Nov. 21st
Come spend time with the elderlies at Hyatt Classical Residence in La Jolla!
This project allows you to hang out and talk to elderlies and on this day they
have a special tea social. We are going to help serve tea and biscuits which
allows more personal one on one time. You wouldn't want to miss this enjoyable
event as you can see how your presence can brighten up someone's day!
Meet at Sungod at 1:00p. Let Lillian know if you can drive and how many
you can take! If you would like to drive yourself, gas will be
reimbursed.
*To join a project, you must email the event’s coordinator with a request
to be added to the list of attendees, or sign up with the coordinator at a
general body meeting. If you have them, please don’t forget to wear your PASS shirts to projects and socials!
PASS ARCHIVES REMINDER
As finals are approaching soon, PASS wants to remind all of you about PASS
archives. Only paid members are eligible for archives. Each paid member is
allotted one free draw from the archives. Subsequent draws require 1 submission
(of recent course materials which PASS does not already have) for 3 draws of
course material. Please donate your material, this is the only way for the
archives to continue growing! Please email requests for materials to archives@ucsdpass.org and allow several
days for your materials to be sent to you. Materials may be submitted as PDF or
WORD files to the email address above. The archives is unavailable during
academic breaks and the last two weeks of the academic term.
