UPCOMING VOLUNTEERING PROJECTS
PREUSS SCHOOL TUTORING
Coordinator: Lisa Sugimori (lsugimor@ucsd.edu)
Ongoing and all day project
Dates: Nov. 21st, Nov. 28th, Dec. 5th
The Preuss School, located on the University of California San Diego (UCSD)
campus in La Jolla, California, is a charter middle and high school dedicated
to providing a rigorous college prep education for motivated low-income
students who will become the first in their families to graduate from college.
Preuss has classes from 6th grade to 12th grade and the classes meet from 9am
to 4pm M-F and 9-11am on Saturdays. Volunteer tutors usually come in for
an hour and a half, twice a week (Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and
Thursday).
To become a volunteer tutor email Lisa Sugimori at lsugimor@gmail.com for the volunteer
application and she will set up yor orientation. Volunteers need to
provide a proof of TB test result that is no more than 60 days old. If you have
it, bring a copy of the results to the orientation. Alternatively, volunteers
may get their TB screening down with our school nurse for free (call Kris
Richer at 858-658-7422). Additionally, you will need to provide a copy of
a government issued photo identification (driver’s license, passport, military
identification, US or other government identification). (Student identification
cards do no satisfy this requirement.)

Coordinator: Andrew Kuei (akuei@ucsd.edu)
Nov. 20th, 4:40pm-8:40pm at Qualcomm Stadium
Each year, in communities all across the United States and Canada, families,
friends, neighbors and teams from local businesses and national companies come

events to bring help and hope to people battling blood cancers.
PASS will be donating $300 to the cause! Be proactive and come support! Meet
at Sungod statue at 4:40pm, rides will be provided. If you sign up and can’t
go, the cutoff is a week before the event! Please indicate whether if you can
drive or not in the email (gas will be reimbursed!)
ROOM VISITS
Coordinator: Lillian Ng (ljng@ucsd.edu) Nov. 21st, 1:30 pm-3:30pm
Come spend time with the elderlies at Hyatt Classical Residence in La Jolla!
This project allows you to hang out and talk to elderlies and on this day they
have a special tea social. We are going to help serve tea and biscuits which
allows more personal one on one time. You wouldn't want to miss this enjoyable
event as you can see how your presence can brighten up someone's day!
Meet at Sungod at 1:00p. Let Lillian know if you can drive and how many
you can take! If you would like to drive yourself, gas will be
reimbursed.
ICE-SKATING SOCIAL
Coordinator: Shadi Shojaie (shshojae@ucsd.edu)
Nov. 21st, 8:00pm-10:30pm (meet at 7:15)
Get in the holiday spirit with a fun night of ice skating, socializing, and exercising!
Dress warm and layer because you’ll be cold at first. They will provide us with
skates so don’t worry about a thing just come and show your pretty faces.
P.S. PASS will cover some of the cost for paid members so each student only
has to pay $5 which is a great deal!
*To join a project, you must email the event’s coordinator with a request
to be added to the list of attendees, or sign up with the coordinator at a
general body meeting. If you have them, please don’t forget to wear your PASS shirts to projects and socials!
PASS ARCHIVES REMINDER
As finals are approaching soon, PASS wants to remind all of you about PASS
archives. Only paid members are eligible for archives. Each paid member is
allotted one free draw from the archives. Subsequent draws require 1 submission
(of recent course materials which PASS does not already have) for 3 draws of
course material. Please donate your material, this is the only way for the
archives to continue growing! Please email requests for materials to archives@ucsdpass.org and allow several
days for your materials to be sent to you. Materials may be submitted as PDF or
WORD files to the email address above. The archives is unavailable during
academic breaks and the last two weeks of the academic term.
