Here are the upcoming events for The Pre-Medical Association of Students for Service…

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

2nd GENERAL BODY MEETING-UCSD DOULA PROGRAM

Wednesday, April 28th, 7:00pm-8:00pm Price Center Theater

The guest speaker for our 2nd GBM is a representative from the doula program at UCSD medical center. A doula is a non-medical childbirth assistant. UCSD Hearts and Hands Doulas are volunteer birth assistants offering help to any woman giving birth in either the Birth Center or the Labor and Delivery Unit at the UCSD Medical Center. Come enjoy us to hear about the exciting opportunities from the doula program. Food and drinks will be provided and members are able to pick up shirts.

 

PASS OFFICER POSITIONS

PASS Officer applications are now closed. Those that have sent their applications should have received a confirmation email earlier today. If you have not, please contact rcchang@ucsd.edu to confirm whether your application has been received.

 

SERVICE AND SOCIAL POINTS UPDATE

Updated service and social points files are in the email attachment. Also this is a friendly reminder that all members need six service points and two social points by the end of the year to be considered an active member.

MEMBERS WHO USED PAYPAL

If you used PayPal on our website to pay for dues and had someone other than yourself pay using a credit card (a parent perhaps?) then please email Secretary Jenny to check that dues went under your name and not that of the payee. Email pass@ucsd.edu with your name and the name of the individual who paid for you.

UPCOMING SOCIALS

MENTOR-MENTEE YOGURTWORLD INFO SESSION

Tuesday, April 27th, 5:00pm-6:00pm Email Christine Feng at Christine.feng@gmail.com

The Mentor/Mentee Program will be having a Yogurtworld info session on Tuesday, April 27th at 5pm! PASS will be subsidizing $4 for each paid member's yogurt, so bring your sweet tooth! :) Mentees will have chances to ask questions about the MCAT, summer internships/volunteer opportunities, jobs, and research! Officers will be split up into groups of 2 or 3 to hold mini-panels on the topics.Feel free to bring your friends!

 

UPCOMING VOLUNTEERING PROJECTS

PREUSS SCHOOL TUTORING

Coordinator: Lisa Sugimori (lsugimor@ucsd.edu) Ongoing and all day project

Dates: May 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, June 5th

The Preuss School, located on the University of California San Diego (UCSD) campus in La Jolla, California, is a charter middle and high school dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for motivated low-income students who will become the first in their families to graduate from college. Preuss has classes from 6th grade to 12th grade and the classes meet from 9am to 4pm M-F and 9-11am on Saturdays. Volunteer tutors usually come in for an hour and a half, twice a week (Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday).
To become a volunteer tutor email Lisa Sugimori at
lsugimor@gmail.com for the volunteer application and she will set up your orientation. Volunteers need to provide a proof of TB test result that is no more than 60 days old. If you have it, bring a copy of the results to the orientation. TB tests can be obtained at UCSD student health. Additionally, you will need to provide a copy of a government issued photo identification (driver’s license, passport, military identification, US or other government identification). (Student identification cards do no satisfy this requirement.)

 

ROOM VISITS

Coordinator: Lindsy Godair (lgodair@ucsd.edu) Ongoing 1:30pm – 3:30pm

Dates: May 1st, 8th, 22nd

Sit and make a new friend by visiting with an elderly member of the classical residence in La Jolla . This project provides the opportunity to spend time with and brighten the day of one of our city's very own pearls of wisdom. We will be responsible for providing tea and cookies for the residents as well as taking them for walks in the park. Every one can make a different, your day may even be brightened!
Rides will be provided or if you would like to drive yourself you will be reimbursed. We will meet at Sungod. Email me if you are interested. This is a great and relaxing event, be sure to check the website for the dates!

 

FRIENDS OF CATS

Coordinator: Alicia Hitch (ahitch@ucsd.edu) Saturday, May 1st, 10:00am- 12:00pm

Come out and socialize cats so that they will be adoptable. I will need drivers so please contact Ali if you are interested in attending this event.

 

WALK n’ROLL- 2010 WALK FOR ANIMALS

Coordinator: Lillian Ng (ljng@ucsd.edu) Saturday, May 1st, 7:30am-12:00pm

Come out and support San Diego Humane Society and SPCA by participating in this three quarter mile walk!  This event is located in Crown Point Shores Mission Bay.  You can also bring YOUR dog, but remember to bring a leash.  Complimentary breakfast will be provided and there will aslo be a variety of vendors.  If you would also like to donate (you can also donate if you are unable to attend this event), click: http://www.sdhumane.org/site/TR/Events/2010Walk?fr_id=1070&pg=pfind
and search Team name: PASS UCSD.  Click on team captain, Lillian Ng and you can donate any amount you wish.This event raises money to ensure pets all over San Diego are well taken care of.  Funds go to providing homes, food, and medical care for injured and rescue animals.  It will be great to see you all there walking and raising money to support PASS, San Diego Humane Society, and SPCA.  Email me if you have would like to participate!  Also, please let me know if you will be able to drive.  Gas will be compensated for drivers!

 

FEED THE HOMELESS

Coordinator: Lillian Ng (ljng@ucsd.edu) Sunday, May 23rd, 4:00pm-7:00pm

Help feed the homeless and less fortunate people at St. Vincent de Paul Church! This will be a great way to meet and talk to a totally different group of people while getting to know other PASS members! Email me at ljng@ucsd.edu if you would like to attend this event. Let me know if you are able to drive!

 

KIDNEY WALK

Coordinator: Alicia Hitch (ahitch@ucsd.edu) Saturday, May 15th, 9:00am- 12:00pm

Come support the CAUSE! Walk around NTC Promenade at Liberty Station and support the National Kidney Foundation. Ali has not hammered out details of when we would leave but the walk begins at 9 am and we will leave from Sun God Lawn. She will need drivers so let's help out :) Email Ali about this event.

 

LIVER WALK

Coordinator: Alicia Hitch (ahitch@ucsd.edu) Sunday, May 23rd, 7:00am- 9:00am

Walk around San Diego Zoo and support the cause! Email Ali about this event and she needs drivers. :)

 

*To join a project, you must email the event’s coordinator with a request to be added to the list of attendees, or sign up with the coordinator at a general body meeting. If you have them, please don’t forget to wear your PASS shirts to projects and socials!
