UPCOMING SOCIALS

Social Director: Shadi Shojaei    (shshojae@ucsd.edu) Tuesday May 18th 6:30-10:30pm (FULL)

CPR certification social round 3!!! Sign up and enjoy a fun and also very educational social experience taught by one of UCSD canyon view instructors for only $5 per person! This is a great deal considering how expensive CPR classes are outside. Also it's a very handy skill to have on your resume. It's easy and pressure free. There are only 12 spots available so email me to sign up.

Moonlight Kayak Social

Email Shadi at shshojae@ucsd.edu

This is an adventure of a lifetime! Since the name says it all, I won’t advertise too much but highly encourage you guys to jump at this opportunity to connect with nature and let your mind float along with your kayak in the sea. PASS will be covering majority of the cost and participants will only have to pay $10-15, the exact amount TBD. Since only 12 people can go at a time, I have asked for 2 dates, May 16th and May 23rd, the second will be after the banquet but if you are signed up for it and you can 100% guarantee that you will show, we will count it into your active member status for the banquet. Don’t wait because spaces fill up fast, so sign up!

UPCOMING VOLUNTEERING PROJECTS

PREUSS SCHOOL TUTORING

Coordinator: Lisa Sugimori (lsugimor@ucsd.edu) Ongoing and all day project

Dates: 22nd, 29th, June 5th

The Preuss School, located on the University of California San Diego (UCSD) campus in La Jolla, California, is a charter middle and high school dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for motivated low-income students who will become the first in their families to graduate from college. Preuss has classes from 6th grade to 12th grade and the classes meet from 9am to 4pm M-F and 9-11am on Saturdays. Volunteer tutors usually come in for an hour and a half, twice a week (Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday).
To become a volunteer tutor email Lisa Sugimori at
lsugimor@gmail.com for the volunteer application and she will set up your orientation. Volunteers need to provide a proof of TB test result that is no more than 60 days old. If you have it, bring a copy of the results to the orientation. TB tests can be obtained at UCSD student health. Additionally, you will need to provide a copy of a government issued photo identification (driver’s license, passport, military identification, US or other government identification). (Student identification cards do no satisfy this requirement.)

This project provides the opportunity to spend time with and brighten the day of one of our city's very own pearls of wisdom. We will be responsible for providing tea and cookies for the residents as well as taking them for walks in the park. Every one can make a different, your day may even be brightened!
Rides will be provided or if you would like to drive yourself you will be reimbursed. We will meet at Sungod. Email me if you are interested. This is a great and relaxing event, be sure to check the website for the dates!
